Universal social protection: From poverty to inequality

24 mei 2019

SOCIEUX+ is delighted to invite you to our Lab Debate “Universal social protection: From poverty to inequality” at the European Development Days  (EDDs) 2019, held at Tour et Taxis, Avenue du Port 86c B - 1000, Brussels, Belgium. The session will take place on the 18th of June from 17:00 to 18:15. The session is co-organized with the OECD Development Center.

In line with this year’s theme of “Addressing Inequalities: Building a world which leaves no one behindSOCIEUX+, together with OECD Dev, will explore how social protection in developing countries is evolving as a driver of inclusive growth, not just a safety net for those left behind.

The panel will include the ILO Office for the European Union and the Benelux countries; the Institute for Informal Economy of Bogota, Colombia; the Indonesian Ministry of National Development Planning; the LIS Cross-National Data Center in Luxembourg and the Belgian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs. OECD Dev will moderate the exchange among the organizations. Panellist will discuss how inclusive and universal social protection systems are not only capable of reducing inequality through direct redistribution but can also achieve long-term reductions in inequality – of income and opportunity – by promoting human capital development, especially among vulnerable groups, and by sharing risk across the population

In order to attend, you will need to register through the EDDs website before Monday May 27 2019.
